It’s oh-fish-al! Sydney’s favourite Christmas tradition – the 36-Hour Seafood Marathon – is returning to Sydney Fish Market in December, offering an abundance of fresh, high-quality seafood to suit every Christmas table and budget.
Sydneysiders will have plenty of time to shop for their favourite seafood as doors open from 5:00am on Saturday 23 December through to 5:00pm on Sunday 24 December.
This most popular event on the Sydney Fish Market calendar will see more than 100,000 visitors walk through the doors to experience the festive atmosphere and find the ‘perfect catch’ for their Christmas feasts.
With over 100 different species on offer across the Market, there’s something for every preference and price point. From classics like Barramundi, Snapper, lobsters, prawns and oysters, to the affordably delicious (like School Whiting, Gurnard, and Ocean Jacket), Australia’s home of seafood is ready to arm Aussies with a showstopping seafood centrepiece this festive season.
Sydney Fish Market CEO Greg Dyer says that watching the community come together to celebrate Christmas and enjoy the very best Australian seafood at the 36-Hour Seafood Marathon is something he looks forward to every year.
“We know that the cost of living is impacting many Aussie families, so we’re delighted to be able to offer the largest variety of affordable, premium-quality Australian seafood this Christmas. We encourage visitors to come with an open mind and menu, and let our expert retailers guide you towards the catch of the day.”
Christmas favourites will be in plentiful supply this year, with more than 350 tonnes of seafood expected to be sold during the marathon, including 120 tonnes of prawns and almost 70,000 dozen oysters.
In addition to these traditional favourites, visitors can expect to find much more than just seafood at the Market’s retailers, with Christmas hams, high quality fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, fine deli goods, and premium wine and beer all available on site - making Sydney Fish Market the ultimate one-stop-shop this Christmas.
As a fellow seafood devotee, Santa won’t be missing the chance to shop showstopping seafood during the Marathon as he greets families donning his famous red suit. Santa will make special appearances at the Market from 9am-12pm on both the 23rd and 24th of December.
For those looking to beat the crowds, pre-order and home delivery options are available on retailers’ websites.
